Dr. Kristin Raitzer has been appointed Assistant Superintendent effective July 1, replacing retiring Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kathy Horvath in Northbrook District 28.

Dr. Raitzer comes to Northbrook with a broad background in education, holding leadership positions in Minneapolis, MN; Louisville, KY; Zion and St. Charles.

She is currently Area Assistant Superintendent for St. Charles District 303, supervising 12 elementary schools and an early childhood program. She was responsible for all aspects of curriculum, instruction and assessment while serving as assistant superintendent in Zion. As a principal Lowe Elementary School in Louisville, Dr. Raitzer’s school was awarded the Kentucky School of Excellence for achievement in the top 1% of schools in the state.

“Dr. Raitzer has the knowledge, skills and expertise to lead District 28 to continued success and improvement,” said Superintendent Dr. Larry Hewitt.

As Assistant Superintendent in District 28, Dr. Raitzer will oversee teacher training and development and focus on classroom instruction. She is respected among those with whom she has worked as highly ethical and professional.

“I have a great passion for teaching and learning. My favorite place to be is in the classroom. My job is to support those closest to the child to make sure they have the resources and opportunities to collaborate with each other,” she said.

Dr. Horvath is retiring after 15 years with the district. Dr. Raitzer said the innovative and progressive education that children receive is what attracted her to District 28.

“The curriculum starts with the child. The District respects teachers’ abilities to know every child and create learning experiences based on the needs of the child.”
